Our Company Expands Bus Shelter Footprint: 200 New Units Launch in Zhejiang Province, China

HANGZHOU, Zhejiang Province, [July 18, 2024] – Following the successful deployment of its bus shelter project in Saudi Arabia, our company continues to strengthen its presence in the global public infrastructure sector with a new milestone: the official launch of 200 custom-designed bus waiting shelters across Zhejiang Province, China. Spanning key cities and towns in the province—including Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, and Shaoxing—the project is tailored to Zhejiang’s unique urban landscape, ecological priorities, and commuter needs, marking a significant step in upgrading the province’s public transportation experience.

All 200 bus shelters share a unified focus on durability, sustainability, and local integration, while boasting distinct features that reflect Zhejiang’s regional characteristics. Each shelter measures 4 meters in length and is constructed from high-grade stainless steel—a material selected for its exceptional resistance to Zhejiang’s humid subtropical climate, frequent rainfall, and coastal salt spray. The stainless steel frame not only ensures long-term structural stability with minimal maintenance but also presents a sleek, modern aesthetic that complements the province’s blend of historic architecture and contemporary urban development.

At the core of the shelter’s design is a deep commitment to harmonious coexistence between humans and nature—a concept that aligns with Zhejiang’s reputation as a leader in ecological conservation and “Beautiful China” initiatives. To bring this vision to life, the design incorporates extensive use of high-transparency, shatterproof glass panels. These glass elements line the shelter’s sides and roof, allowing abundant natural light to filter through while providing unobstructed views of the surrounding greenery, waterways, and urban scenery. For commuters, this design creates an open, airy waiting space that feels connected to the outdoors, rather than a closed-off structure—enhancing comfort while reinforcing Zhejiang’s focus on integrating infrastructure with the natural environment. A representative from Zhejiang’s Department of Transportation noted, “These shelters don’t just serve a functional purpose; they’re a reflection of our province’s values—prioritizing both people and the planet. The glass-centric design turns a simple bus stop into a small, pleasant space that fits right into our cities’ green landscapes.”

Functionality remains a key priority, with each shelter equipped to meet the practical needs of daily commuters. On the right-hand side of every unit, a large, weatherproof display box serves dual purposes: it can showcase community-friendly advertisements (supporting local businesses and public awareness campaigns) and display real-time bus arrival/departure maps. The display box features high-brightness LED technology, ensuring clear visibility even in direct sunlight or heavy rain—addressing a common pain point for commuters in Zhejiang’s variable weather. The real-time transit maps are synced with the province’s public transportation management system, providing up-to-the-minute updates on bus locations, delays, and route changes, helping commuters plan their journeys more efficiently.

Beyond their core features, the shelters also include thoughtful details tailored to Zhejiang’s daily life. The stainless steel benches inside are ergonomically designed for long waiting periods, with anti-slip surfaces to prevent accidents during rainy days. The roof’s edge is fitted with extended gutters to redirect rainwater away from the waiting area, while small drainage holes in the floor ensure no water accumulation after downpours. Additionally, the shelters are wheelchair-accessible, with gentle ramps leading to the entrance—aligning with Zhejiang’s goal of building inclusive public infrastructure.

During the project’s launch ceremony in Hangzhou, our company’s China Regional Manager emphasized the importance of localized design. “Zhejiang has a unique mix of bustling cities, scenic towns, and rich natural resources. We spent six months collaborating with local urban planners, ecologists, and commuter groups to ensure these shelters meet both practical needs and cultural values. The use of stainless steel and glass isn’t just about durability and aesthetics—it’s about creating something that feels ‘of Zhejiang’.”

Local commuters have already expressed positive feedback. “The new shelters are much brighter than the old ones,” said a Hangzhou resident who takes the bus daily. “I can see the trees outside while I wait, and the display box always tells me exactly when my bus will arrive—no more guessing in the rain.”

With the launch of these 200 shelters, our company aims to further deepen its partnership with Zhejiang Province. Future plans include exploring smart technology integrations, such as solar panels on the shelter roofs to power the display boxes, and QR codes that commuters can scan for additional transit information. The project also serves as a model for other regions in China, demonstrating how infrastructure can balance functionality, sustainability, and local identity.

As our company continues to expand its global footprint, projects like the Zhejiang bus shelters reaffirm its commitment to “designing for the community”—creating public infrastructure that not only serves a purpose but also enhances the quality of life for the people who use it every day.
